Economic Update

Jobless rates are slowly climbing and we keep hearing of layoffs nationwide and in New Hampshire. But analysts say the state is in still decent shape in spite of an economic slowdown. We'll get a quarterly update on where things are headed in this sluggish economy. Inventions, Law, and The Search for "Nessie"

Robert Rines is an inventor, with 80 patents to his credit, and a lawyer. He's the founder of two New Hampshire institutions: the Academy of Applied Science and the Franklin Pierce Law Center. He also spends some of his spare time in Scotland, hunting the Loch Ness Monster. The Academy of Applied Science has a page where you can follow Rines' search for Nessie at www.aas-world.org

New Asbestos Rules for Nashua

State environmental workers will unveil proposed rules next week to control asbestos contamination in Hudson and Nashua. The rules will specify steps landowners must take to isolate or remove the substance, which can cause cancer and respiratory disease. David Russo of the Department of Environmental Services told NHPR's Trish Anderton asbestos contamination is widespread in Nashua and Hudson.
