A Polluted Pond in Trendy Portsmouth

Some Portsmouth residents are fed up with the pollution and the smell coming from an otherwise picturesque pond in the middle of the city.

In this first of a two-part series on South Mill Pond, correspondent Roger Wood reports on the raw sewage flowing in the center of one of the state's most desirable and expensive places to live.

No Higher Calling: Attitudes Towards Poverty in NH

In conjunction with its 150th anniversary, Child and Family Services is publishing "No Higher Calling," a book that explores the social history of the state's attitudes toward poverty, welfare and charity. Kat Strange is the communications director for CFS; she coordinated the project. Jack Resch is a professor of history at UNH; he was the historical consultant for the book. UNH Professor at Key Global Warming Conference

The Kyoto Protocol talks on climate change are scheduled to begin today in Bonn, Germany. Last week, 1,500 scientists from 100 countries met in Amsterdam in The Netherlands to discuss global warming.

UNH Professor, Berrien Moore chaired on the scientific committees in Holland. Dr. Moore is with university?s Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space.

In an interview with NHPR?s Doug MacPherson, Dr. Moore said there is consensus among the world?s scientific community that global warming and climate change are real.

Folk Show tribute to John Hartford - July 22

On June 4th, 2001 the music world lost a great songwriter and entertainer, John Hartford. Next week, July 22nd, The Folk Show pays tribute to John Hartford, featuring the new release by Blue Plate Music, "Mountain Stage Tribute to John Hartford" and a recording of a 1988 NHPR broadcast of a concert at the Nashua Center for the Arts.
