Listeners Talk About Affordable Housing

By Jon Greenberg on Thursday, July 12, 2001.

A number of people have sent emails about our coverage on the rising cost of housing in New Hampshire. Our web site has a special section with an executive summary on housing and a list of key resources. There’s also a place for people to share their ideas. In this audio segment NHPR’s Jon Greenberg and Trish Anderton read a few of them. You can see all the comments in full at www.nhpr.org/static/programs/exchange/housing/

State Rips Velcro

By Dan Gorenstein on Thursday, July 12, 2001.

The state of New Hampshire has reached an agreement with the fastener company Velcro. The Manchester facility did not stick to its agreement with the state to regulate its own air emissions. As a consequence, Velcro received the state's largest civil penalty in state history, $700 thousand dollars. The violations, discovered in 1999, came after a Department of Environmental Services investigation.

NHPR's Dan Gorenstein spoke with Senior Assistant Attorney General Maureen Smith.
