Londonderry Begins Battle Against Sprawl

Londonderry officials have taken on the battle against sprawl….and have begun an effort to preserve open space.
An influx of new residents….accelerated by the high-tech boom of the 1990s…has resulted in a wave of commercial development.
Town officials don’t want to fall behind the times.
But they don’t want to lose the rural charm people came for in the first place.
NHPR Correspondent Carolyn D’Aquila reports.

Why Did the Moose Cross the Road? He Was in a Rut!

The moose season opened Saturday, but even for non-hunters, this is a time of year to be especially alert for the big animals. It's the moose mating season, called the rut, and bull moose have only one thing on their minds (small as they are) This can be especially dangerous for drivers. In the North Country, Rebecca Brown reports that an emergency room doctor has some tips for avoiding potentially fatal moose-car collisions.

A Long Struggle to Publish a Short Book

It took years for Deborah Bruss to catch the attention of a publisher and see her book reach print. The final product, "Book, Book, Book," is about a bunch of farm animals who visit a library in search of something to do. Deborah talks about her book and what it takes to get published.
